Driver Improvement Program

Driver Improvement Program in Maryland is a small 4-8 hour program, designed particularly to improve someone’s driving habit. This program is made especially for those who scores 5-7 points on the driving record, or ordered by a judge or is being convicted PBG while on provisional’s. The main intention is to provide driver rehabilitation. You have been assigned by:


  • You were convicted or granted probation before judgment for a moving violation while holding a provisional driver’s license.
  • You were referred by an Administrative Law Judge (ALJ) in the Office of Administrative Hearings (OAH);
  • You were referred by a District Court Judge;
  • You accumulated 5, 6, or 7 points on your driving record;
If a judge orders you to attend driver improvement program than you’ll receive letter from MVA.
The letter from MVA will come along with requirements and the DIP Providers, after receiving letter:


  • Contact any DIP provider on the list and get a hold of an authority, take a location, the fees and details to take the program.
  • Go to the class you selected and ensure to bring the MVA letter with you.
  • In case you don’t have the MVA letter, you will need a duplicate to take the classes. Start by emailing your need to mvacs@mdot.state.md.us, try contacting the Driver improvement program unit. In case you decide to go to the branch office, they’ll make contact with DIP, and will print the duplicate referral letter.
  • Complete the DIP by the date mention in the Driver Improvement Program referral letter.
